The project is situated in New Town, an African-American community in Blacksburg settled by formerly enslaved people beginning in the late 19th century. While preserving the St. Luke and Odd Fellows Hall, which is the only building that remains, the students designed a series of structures and landscapes that recognize the significance of New Town and provides a place to tell its history and hold gathering events.
